11.5%, Lidl, £5.99
This little gem from Lidl’s summer collection has to be the bargain of the month. Chasselas is a relatively little-known grape, usually grown in Switzerland, but also in Germany. Brilliant weekday wine for the summer, regardless of the weather, attractive, zesty and crisp. Bursting with bright citrus fruit, full of lemon peel and grapefruit flavour, it’s lively, and tangy, with a smokey note, and delicious freshness. Zingy and bright.
‘Petite lie’ means the wine has been aged on its lees for a while, which adds depth and character. Seriously, a steal at this price, snap it up quickly, whilst its on shelf.
Pair with simple fish dishes, bbq prawns, summer salads, and is a perfect everyday, affordable white, which should be in your fridge at all times!
