I’m Angela, the woman whose palate was insured for £10million at Lloyds of London, by my former employers.
I’ve been working in the wine and spirits industry ever since I left university. Having grown up abroad, and with a degree in languages, together with an irrepressible love of travel, a career in wine seemed like the perfect job.
It wasn’t all easy going, but I eventually took the helm of the wine buying team for one of the major supermarkets; I spent 15 years travelling the world, sniffing out new, exciting and hitherto undiscovered wines to bring to the UK.
My goal was always to find good wines at affordable prices, bringing wine to the mainstream wine drinker – value for money at every price point.
I left the corporate world in 2008, and set up my own business; using years of retail experience, I help wineries all over the world, helping them get their wines and their strategy fit for overseas markets.
I am Panel Chair at the International Wine Challenge, the world’s most influential wine competition. I also judge at Great Taste Awards, amongst others, and chaired the Bristol and Bath Good Food Awards.
I am a presenter and public speaker; I speak frequently at Drinks Industry events, and chair panels, specialising in retail and consumer shopping trends, and wine styles. I am a contributor to Harpers Wine & Spirit and to The Buyer.
I also host private and corporate wine tasting events.
It hasn’t all been plain sailing; I’ve battled breast cancer twice and both write and speak publicly about learning how to cope with cancer, sometimes on behalf of Breast Cancer Now.
I have 3 children, 3 cats, and live in Bath.
