This has to be one of the great bargains of the moment, and perfect for this time of year. From Piemonte, home of some of the greatest Italian reds (Barolo, Barbaresco etc), comes this little-known star in its own right, the Albarosso grape. The price is incredible for what’s in the bottle; perfumed, juicy, vibrant, full of ripe fruits. For those of you who don’t like oaky wines, go for this – zero oak, fresh and bright. At this price, perfect midweek red with lasagne, tomato- based pasta, cottage pie.
