Rose isn’t just for Summer, it’s a great all year round drink, especially with mildly spicy food, and also, to my mind, silly as it sounds, pink food – sweet prawns, succulent salmon, the fleshy flavour of tuna, even ripe, scented strawberries, marinaded with basil and black pepper.
This one is from the heat-soaked vineyards of Puglia, in the deep south, the heel of Italy. Fragrant, floral and with the fragrance of wild strawberries and sun-kissed cherries; bright and fruity, full-flavoured yet crisply fresh, think Summer pudding flavours, dusted with mint, and drizzled with a hint of lemon. Snap it up when it’s still there.
